199X is opening to its first players. Spots are free and come with permanent Founder status. Here's all it takes:
You must supply your own EarthBound ROM. We never distribute game data.
After the conclusion of Mother 3, Pokey spent an eternity marinating in PSI psychosis. Unable to die, even after billions and billions of years drifting in space, he eventually mastered mental control of his prison capsule and used it to travel back to 199X with vengeance.
Smashing like a meteorite into the Earth, his evil festers and spreads throughout the world. Buying him time for what he is plotting below the surface.
Free, and permanent Founder status. You must supply your own ROM!.
"I fear the worst has happened.
Soon, after Pokey was trapped, I realized the space-age alloy called Zexonyte I required for the Phase Disorter II's time travel component in 199X was the very material that came from this Safety Capsule! Now I am building a Phase Disorter to return to 199X and fix my mistake.
Eternity is a long time for malice to sit and grow. Over billions and billions of years, that capsule will have drifted through the cosmos, and eventually become the very meteorite that crashed behind Ness's house in 199X!
Once I arrive, I will modify my Instant Revitalizing Machines to pull souls from parallel realities into physical forms in Onett. You, reading this, are the ones we need.
We don't have much time. I can give you a body but you will need to strengthen it. We need an army to hold the line while my prehistoric companions hack away at the capsule hull.
Please, help us!"
199X runs on a high-performance node-datachannel (WebRTC)
architecture β real-time action combat that streams straight to your browser from
anywhere in the world.
199X never distributes game data. You must supply your own EarthBound ROM, certifying you own a legitimate copy. It's verified, then read entirely on your device to build the sprites, maps, music, and world you see and experience. That happens once and is cached, so future visits load instantly. Your ROM is never uploaded, and we do not send ROMs to any user.
The server runs the live multiplayer β player movement, combat, and chat β which means it keeps its own copy of the world's geometry so it can referee collision and enemies. That data stays on the server: it is never offered as a download, and it is never served to anyone who hasn't supplied their own ROM.
